day one
For Lent this year, my goal is to fast inactivity by taking a walk
every day. I've been extra sedentary this year with all the sickness
and back troubles, but I was already underactive. Plus, I'd like to
get out there and interact with my neighbors more, challenging the
culture of isolation we've got going on around here. A couple of
days ago, Elliott came with me. We ended up at a dip in the road
that had both rocks and water and found ourselves highly amused.

art supply sampler
As I was recovering from my two week illness
last Wednesday, I threw my back out and was
incapacitated for several more days. I'm still
in pain but glad to be up and moving about again.
Here's a little sampler of some art supplies I've
been carrying around lately.

light sabers
One of the reasons I've continued painting over the
past 8 years while raising my two kids is to capture
the fleeting elements of life. There are bits and pieces
which appear ordinary at the time but completely
disappear months later. I suspect that light sabers are
one of these pieces for us right now. How many light
sabers do you have lying around your place, for instance?
Beyond capturing these for memory's sake (mine's not
that great), I find it gives me opportunity to enjoy the
moment and even grieve the coming loss of it a little bit.
What are the bits and pieces of your life that are unique
to this present moment? I would love to hear about them.

another sick day
My kids are filling in for me while I take yet another sick day.
It looks I've got a bronchial infection of some sort.
Antibiotics are helping, but I'm not quite there yet!
The above drawing is "Sleeping Swaddled Baby" by Ashton.
This one is "Daddy As A Baby" by Elliott.
Our friends are having babies these days -- lots of them!
So we have babies on our mind.

retro journal entry
Here's a journal page from May of 2008, when I was discovering Lombardic Versals.
I'm on my twelfth day of being sick today,
and my ability to maintain the basics is slipping -- things on the blog
might be spotty for a while. Hopefully I'll get my head (and chest cold)
above water soon. Fortunately, it's a beautiful, rainy day.
Not bad for lounging around sipping tea.
